At Kyokushin1One, we do not see a Shihan merely as someone with a high rank — but as a true guardian of the Kyokushin spirit.A Shihan is someone who has dedicated their life to the path of karate — not just by mastering kata, but through commitment to the community and inspiring others.
A Shihan is a builder.Someone who has founded their own dojo, trained students for many years, and worked tirelessly to grow Kyokushin in their region — and often far beyond. It’s not about fame or titles, but about service. Organizing exams, handling administration, promoting your club — these are not tasks, but sacrifices made for a greater purpose.
To be a Shihan means: to give, to build, to lead.
That is why we have established clear and fair criteria for recognition starting from 5th Dan. Higher ranks beyond 8th Dan are currently in development.

Proven record of certifying at least 10 Dan grades among your students(e.g. 10x 1st Dan, or 6x 1st Dan + 2x 2nd Dan, or 3x 3rd Dan + 1x 1st Dan)
6th Dan – The Path of Dedication
Minimum 6 years holding the rank of 5th Dan
Minimum 45 years of age
At least 20 years of active teaching and at least 20 years dojo ownership
Proven record of certifying at least 20 Dan grades among your students(e.g. 20x 1st Dan, or 12x 1st Dan + 3x 2nd Dan, or 6x 3rd Dan + 2x 1st Dan)
7th Dan – The Path of International Impact
Minimum 7 years holding the rank of 6th Dan
Minimum 55 years of age
At least 7 years of international teaching experience in 7 or more countries, with seminars for large groups

Minimum 65 years of age

A Shihan is not a title you carry — it is a path you walk. At Kyokushin1One, we recognize that journey — not by who you know, but by what you have built.
